In the main story of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, years before the original game's events, the still living Shirai Ryu ninja Hanzo Hasashi is enlisted by the necromancer Quan Chi to find a map hidden in a Shaolin temple. ![]() He kept the same basic uniform design for the Shirai Ryu but altered details and coloring. ![]() According to the game's story, the Shirai Ryu was originally founded by the ninja Takeda, who served with the Lin Kuei before developing his own form of fighting and deciding to leave the clan. The game established Scorpion's real name and the name of his clan, cemented the Lin Kuei is a Chinese clan and its warriors do not consider themselves ninja, and explained the reason for Lin Kuei warriors and Shirai Ryu warriors wearing such similar costumes. The game Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997) featured Scorpion as an unplayable boss character who appears twice. Scorpion's allegiance to the emperor dissolves when he discovers this puts him against Sub-Zero, who has allied with Earth's defenders. In the story, Shao Kahn enlists Scorpion's aid. Scorpion and the game's similar palette-swapped ninja characters were not playable characters in Mortal Kombat 3., but returned as a playable character in the 1995 upgrade Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. The elder Sub-Zero and younger Sub-Zero are later given the birth names of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, respectively, in the Mortal Kombat reboot game. Scorpion decides to be the younger Sub-Zero's guardian in atonement for killing his older brother. When Scorpion sees himspare the life of an opponent, he realizes this is not the same Sub-Zero who killed him, but his younger brother. In Mortal Kombat II (1993), another Lin Kuei warrior called Sub-Zero joins this tournament. ![]() Canonically, after the tenth tournament is won by the human champion Liu Kang, Scorpion kills Sub-Zero. The same ending implies that the curse of Scorpion's supernatural existence means he can have revenge but cannot reunite with his still-living family. Scorpion's ending reveals he is actually an undead specter, a warrior who was killed by Sub-Zero, survived by a wife and child, and allowed to return to the physical realms in order to have his revenge. In Mortal Kombat (1992), it is implied Scorpion has enmity towards Sub-Zero due to rivalry between their opposing warrior clans (Scorpion's Japanese clan is unnamed, while the game names Sub-Zero's Chinese clan "Lin Kuei"). He is regarded as Mortal Kombat 's most iconic fighter series co-creator Ed Boon cites Scorpion as his favorite character.Īppearances and character background Scorpion has received critical acclaim since his debut and frequently appears in media outside of the games. Scorpion is also both a rival and ally of the younger Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang). Depicted as a neutral party in most games, Scorpion generally forgoes the franchise's main conflicts to pursue his personal missions, which sometimes results in him taking the side that will help his objective. Subsequent games reveal that his family and clan were murdered by the sorcerer Quan Chi, who becomes Scorpion's primary target for vengeance. The character's backstory establishes him as Hanzo Hasashi ( Japanese: 波佐志 半蔵), a warrior from the fictional Shirai Ryu clan who was killed by the elder Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) of the rival Lin Kuei clan. His primary weapon is a kunai- rope dart, which he uses to harpoon opponents, while his trademark fatality is named "Toasty!" (in which he removes his mask to reveal a skull right before immolating his opponent with fire). He is principally defined by his quest to avenge the deaths of himself, his family, and his clan. ![]() An undead ninja, Scorpion made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat (1992) and subsequently appeared in every main installment of the series (including updates) alongside Raiden. Scorpion is a fictional character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise by Midway Games and NetherRealm Studios. Ian Anthony Dale (short film, web series)

Whether involved in the process of making timekeeping more precise or helping to craft timepieces that are stylish, artistic, and practical, horologists are both inventors and artists, left-brained and right-brained. Role of a HorologistĮven as new scientific discoveries and technological advancements have made some forms of clocks obsolete while increasingly refining the mechanisms of timekeeping, horologists have remained an integral part of the continued relevance of timepieces in our lives. Since the 1980s, quartz timepieces have been the most common, particularly in the wristwatch market that had previously been dominated by wound watches. Horton and Warren Morrison, two researchers at Bell Telephone Laboratories, the quartz clock measures the passage of time using the frequency of a quartz crystal. The pendulum clock uses a swinging weight to measure time and until the 20th century, it was the most accurate timepiece available.įirst built in 1927 by J.W. Though Galileo is credited by some as having originated the design, it was first created in 1656 by a Dutch watchmaker named Christian Huygens. The first timepiece that might be considered “ modern” was the pendulum clock. For those early civilizations, they were sufficient, but dedicated horologists knew there had to be a more precise way of telling time. After sundials came water clocks, which, while more accurate, still lacked precision. ![]() Sundials were much smaller and, thus, more accessible timepieces that nonetheless relied on the same principle of shadow timekeeping as obelisks. The ancient Egyptian obelisks still hold a lot of mystery for modern historians, but what is known about them tells us not only how impressive their creation was, but how intelligent these ancient civilizations really were. ![]() The original timepieces were obelisks: thin, vertical towers that end in a point (think the Washington Monument). The existence of timekeeping in ancient Egypt, however, has been confirmed. Since much of the Sumerian’s history has been lost in the millennia since their civilization fell, the details of their timekeeping techniques remain hypothetical. The origins of timekeeping are believed to have occurred in Sumer, the birthplace of human civilization and the ancient society where written communication first developed. Humanity has been obsessed with the passage of time since the first human gained consciousness and realized he was somehow already late for work. ![]() The expanding story of Nier through several new releases over the past ten years has created a world loved by thousands of fans. His substantial success with the Nier franchise has been earned through hard work and dedication. Updated on October 10, 2022, by C.M Edwards: Yoko Taro continues to be one of the most prominent game directors. RELATED: Why Nier: Automata Is Still Groundbreaking 5 Years Later Here are some of the best games that Yoko Taro has worked on. His success has been defined recently by his works in the NieR franchise, which has become a cult classic. Taro’s themes are heavy in the games he has worked on, and fans of his work remember him for those narrative elements. He is praised for his unique style of storytelling, which focuses on the darker side of people and why they deem it necessary to cause violence against one another. While it is widespread knowledge that Yoko Taro had never originally planned on being a part of video-game development, he joined the faction after working for Namco and Sony. Over the course of his career, he has had his hands in the development of many flagship titles both as creator and support. His intricate imagination bears incredible games with unique worlds and characters. Babylon’s Fall is a poor attempt at a cash grab that doesn’t even get that right - no one is going to want to spend money on it.Yoko Taro is a veteran in the game industry. Any hopes I had were quickly dragged down by wonky combat mechanics, a below-average narrative, poor graphics, and even worse aesthetic choices that only make the whole experience even more unenjoyable and frustrating. Related: Babylon's Fall Demo Players Dismayed At Lack Of Dark Skin Tonesįrom God Eater 3 to Freedom Wars, the trope of a soldier slave is not strange in JRPGs, but it’s certainly an outdated one, which only gets worse when the narrative forces your character to become somewhat friends with your master, who just a few hours ago electroshocked one of your friends for talking back.Įven with PlatinumGames’ signature combat and some mechanics brought in from its past work, Babylon’s Fall babylon-falls short in every department. As the unwilling cannon fodder for the military in Neo Babylon, you are the first to be put in danger, which of course, justifies the shenanigans you witness. While the game doesn’t offer any commentary on the subject, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that you are basically a slave. That being said, none of these changes are strong enough to make a big difference from what you’ve seen up to that point. ![]() Other innovations come in the form of elemental damage, and some circumstantial ailments such as slippery floors or lava, which make the fights feel a bit more varied after a few hours into the game. Since that will affect how you use them in combat, it gives you plenty of room for experimentation and enables you to tailor your playstyle as you see fit, at least until you inevitably replace them with better ones. One of the few things that does shine positively is the functionality of the weapons you equip, which will vary depending on the slot you’re putting them in. ![]() This doesn’t carry over to Babylon’s Fall, sadly, since the combat is average at best and just boring at worst, with several fights being unnecessarily long and quite repetitive. ![]() This is not a Genshin Impact-level mobile game though, it’s more like those knock-off match-three games where you need to repair a house using just a hammer and some sticky tape.Īesthetics aside, PlatinumGames usually delivers the best combat systems and mechanics in action RPGs - just look at Bayonetta, Astral Chain, or Nier Automata. That, and the fact that it has a massive phone signal bar on the top right part of the screen. And now I think about it, the game kinda looks like it’s made for smartphones if you pay attention to the HUD and some other elements, like the subpar graphics displayed during the static cutscenes. It’s as if the horrible painting filter tries to hide some poor quality upscaling in the game. This becomes especially frustrating in zones like the Thieves Cloister or the Volcanic Cloister, as weather elements like rain or the lack of lighting overlap with the filter, making everything look like a poorly painted mosaic. Sadly, it’s implemented in such a messy way that it looks like you’re getting your head violently shaken while playing the game, meaning any attempt at perceiving details (especially during combat) just fails miserably. There is a clear intent to make this game look like a painting, and you can perceive invisible brush movements and a canvas-like filter as you move the camera. Right from the beginning, the art style in this game grabbed my attention, but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. Clustering them groups them into albums based on the album tag or folders they’re in. The left hand panel is your local files, which haven’t been matched to anything in the database yet.You might be aware of some of this already but I’ll just cover it anyway. Let’s run through the basics quick, I think that’ll help. When ive looked up and scannded all the unclustered files, what happens to them on the right hand pane, before hitting save. If you think these files do actually belong to full albums then I would start working album by album, and use drag and drop to put them all into the same clusters or into the same albu. This might be correct if you do have a bunch of incomplete albums/odd tracks in your collection. You can change the save behavior to not generate album folders at this stage of course, but you will still end up with a lot of single song albums in your player. But you’re going to end up with a lot of album folders with just one track in them as your files are matched to different albums and compilations. If you have a bunch of unclustered files you can still hit lookup (or scan as a last resort) on all of them and then hit save when they’re matched. How Cluster works: It groups your files into albums, based on the existing ‘album’ tag, or sometimes the folder they’re in if that’s lacking and Picard thinks it makes sense Firstly, be a little bit careful! You can’t undo changes to tags, and I wouldn’t run too many files through at once without double checking their matches in the right-hand column. ![]() The Ultimate In Rugged Versatility Meet the Needs of Practically Any Job with Three Models And the lightweight magnesium frame is stronger than steel and won’t twist, so you get durability without adding weight. Hard for me to actually care about the story. There is far less just swimming around and figuring out things for yourself in this game which was what made the first one so special.5. Every hour or so it will pop-up and tell you it found another location for you to check out. Most of the time I spent on land was just driving around and running from monsters but not actually finding anything to progress the story. The land parts of the game are terrible and not really needed at all. Your character constantly talks to herself and it is hard to be immersed.3. You don't feel like you are the person on the planet. The game wasn't scary at all like the first one was.2. While I'd give the first game a 9, I'm only giving this one an 8 for several reasons listed below.1. While I'd give the first game a 9, I'm only giving thisWhile not near as good (or as long) as the first game, I really enjoyed this sequel. While not near as good (or as long) as the first game, I really enjoyed this sequel. This was the worst of the bugs because it means your land time is hard to navigate.Overall a good sequel to the base game. The first caused beacons on land to fall through the terrain after a while and be lost forever. Fortunately they did add something to break things down as well.Overall I only ran into 2 minor bugs and no crashes. In most cases 1 upgrade required one while the next required a different one. Upgrades for vehicles required either the fabricator, a vehicle upgrade/mobile bay or the modification station. Many things could be fabricated but vehicles needed the mobile bay. The prawn suit is mostly useless in this game. The biggest confusion I had was that there were many different things to make but it was almost random what you used to make them with. Yet storms happen so fast and so often you are discouraged from actually exploring. The seatruck is better than the cyclops but as good as the seafox so that is a good change. Long before you can get gear to survive you have to go on land. Even worse is that early on the storms are probably deadly. Given that there is a short day/night cycle you spend a lot of time hiding underwater or in a cave waiting for the storm to pass or day to come. The biggest issue I had was the ice storms happened way too often and pretty much made navigation impossible while on land. Otherwise the story is fine. The biggest addition is the ice world and more land-based stuff. Additionally a couple of characters are introduced and play a role early on and then vanish for some reason. At the end of the story the character seems to have gotten closure but I don't remember any real closure in the game itself so it seems like pieces were missing. At the end of the story theIf you liked the original then this is more of the same with a few adjustments. ![]() If you liked the original then this is more of the same with a few adjustments. The rest is completely useless.Dont bother making a part 3 unless you: have a decent story and good progression/quest design to go with it, can nail the atmosphere as the first game did, and add enough new content to warrant the price. Of the 5 or so seatruck modules, I only needed 1. The game design feels unfinished, I was so excited to finally get the prawn suit, but you actually never need it and can finish the game easily without it. ![]() Incredibly boring. Also, the new mechanics are few and far between, and the amount of assets added does not really warrant a standalone sequel for this price. "oh, you scanned a shiny green thing? here, let me add the location of the next shiny green thing to the map!". WTF.The story line basically consists of scanning a dozen of glowing green items in a row. Also the alien blew everyone up, but it becomes your friend for no reasons. Instead of the mysterious eerie feeling of the first part, they jumped on the SJW bandwagon and presented some highly implausible characters for diversity reasons.Although they tried to tune the annoyance level down since the reveal, the hastily rewritten "new" story and the protagonists are still subpar, for example we now have a black lesbian super-scientist who found the cure for an alien disease that a super-high-tech alien couldnt. ![]() I was so excited for this game, but the moment they did the dev reveal stream it all went downhill. ![]() (In scientific terms, 1 mWs/cm 2 =1 mJ/cm 2). Irradiance is measured in milliwatts (mW) per square centimeter (cm 2), and the dose of UVC is measured in millijoules (mJ) per square centimeter (cm 2) of the object being irradiated. ![]() The dose is a function of the UVC intensity or "irradiance" from a specific distance from the object times the number of seconds the object is exposed. In order to be effective, the right "dose" of UVC must be applied. Of the three main types of UV light, UVC (which has a wavelength range of 200 to 280 nm) is the most effective for inactivating viruses, with the most effect wavelength being about 260 nm ( Lytle, J Virol 2005). UV radiation kills viruses and bacteria by damaging their genetic material (DNA and RNA). Further below are our reviews and comparisons of UVC products marketed to consumers. If you are still interested in using UV light to help protect yourself from coronavirus, here are the things you'll need to know. Masks can be more easily disinfected other ways, such as in a washing machine (for cloth masks) or at low temperature in an oven (for N95 masks). Many UV products marketed as "killing 99.9% of germs" may be so weak that you would need to hold them for an hour at different angles just to disinfect a mask. Think of using UV-C light to disinfect an object like using a hair blower to dry an object - it can take a lot of time, but with UV-C you often won't know when you're done. UVC works fastest and most reliably on non-porous surfaces, but it may be easier and faster, as well as safer, to clean such surfaces with liquid disinfectants. The big challenge with using UV-C light is being sure your UV lamp provides a large enough dose of UVC light to all the surfaces you need to disinfect, such as a mask, phone, or an entire room, and that you are not exposed to the UVC light, as it is dangerous. Also, more research is needed to test UVC on various household surfaces, and to determine how effective consumer products may be when used in the home, rather than under laboratory conditions. Yes, ultraviolet light in the "C" range, also known as UVC, has been shown to kill SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, although these devices may take a long time and be less effective than other disinfectants. |
